A Historic Appointment and Vision for the NDIS

The appointment of Kurt Fearnley as NDIA chair represents a pivotal moment for the NDIS. “It’s important that the participants of the NDIS get to see themselves in this organisation,” Fearnley said. “Trust with the organisation is essential. The scheme cannot be a success without trust, and that is built over time.”

Having served as an independent advisor during the NDIS rollout and actively lobbying for its creation, Fearnley acknowledges the challenges faced by the scheme, including delays and funding issues. Kurt Fearnley’s Advocacy and Athletic Career

Kurt Fearnley is widely recognized for his achievements as a Paralympian and advocate. He has won three marathon gold medals at the Paralympic Games and two at the Commonwealth Games. In 2009, Fearnley famously crawled the Kokoda Track to raise awareness for mental and men’s health, demonstrating his commitment to disabiltiy advocacy and social causes.

His appointment as NDIA chair is a continuation of his lifelong dedication to disability rights and representation. Fearnley’s leadership is characterized by empathy, resilience, and a deep commitment to social justice, aiming to foster a culture of inclusivity within the NDIA.
