SDA Eligibility FAQ

Quick answers to common questions about Specialist Disability Accommodation.

Participants with an "extreme functional impairment" or "very high support needs" may be eligible. This usually means requiring significant person-to-person support for more than 6 hours a day and needing a home with very specific design features to live safely and independently.
The four SDA design categories are Improved Liveability, Fully Accessible, Robust and High Physical Support. Each responds to different physical or behavioural support needs so the home itself works as a tool for safe and independent living.
Applying for SDA in an NDIS plan usually starts with a detailed Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) and often a separate Housing Needs Assessment prepared by an Occupational Therapist. The evidence needs to show how SDA helps meet your goals and represents value for money against other housing options. Our Coordinator Guides walk through this step by step.
Yes. Updated NDIS rules (Appendix H of the SDA Operational Guideline) make it much easier for participants to share a home with people who aren't SDA eligible such as a partner, child or family member. Many KinKera properties are specifically designed for shared living.
